Summer in Cary is full of sunshine, pool days, and patio lounging, but with rising temps, it’s important to stay cool and stay safe. Whether you’re relaxing in your apartment at The Lodge at Crossroads or heading out for errands, here are some easy heat safety tips to keep in mind all season long:
1. Hydration is Everything
Drink plenty of water - even if you don’t feel thirsty. Keeping a reusable water bottle nearby is a great reminder to sip throughout the day.
Getting bored of water? While consuming water is key for summer safety, it doesn’t mean that you have to enjoy it plain! Add fruit slices, mint, or flavored powder for a refreshing twist!
2. Dress for the Weather
Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing in breathable fabrics like cotton or linen can make a big difference.
Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses if you’re heading outside for UV protection.
3. Limit Outdoor Activity During Peak Heat
Some days, the heat is just too much to wisely handle! Try to schedule outdoor workouts or errands in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler.
If you’re out during the heat of the day, take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors. Consider using electrolytes to combat the physical effects of the heat.

4. Use Fans & AC Wisely
At The Lodge at Crossroads, every apartment is equipped with air conditioning—use it! Ceiling fans, box fans, and handheld fans can also help circulate cool air efficiently, so set them to rotate counterclockwise in summer months.
5. Sunscreen is Non-Negotiable
Even if you’re only outside briefly, apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply every two hours—especially if you’re hanging out at our pool or grilling with neighbors. UV damage is extremely dangerous and should not be taken lightly.
6. Cool Off in the Community Pool
Speaking of the pool - take advantage of our refreshing community amenity! It’s a perfect way to unwind and cool down. Just don’t forget to take water breaks and apply sunscreen.
7. Check on Neighbors and Pets
Extreme heat can sneak up on anyone. Be sure to check on elderly neighbors, friends, or family, and ensure pets are staying hydrated and have access to cool, shaded areas.
Living at The Lodge at Crossroads means you’re surrounded by comfort, convenience, and community. With just a few precautions, you can enjoy every sunny moment safely. Here’s to a healthy, happy summer!
